Attention Nursing Staff:
In light of recent comment and concern by families and school personnel alike, this memorandum serves as a reminder that personal cell phone use for reasons other than emergencies and/or patient-related contact is PROHIBITED.
CELL PHONES SHOULD NOT BE VISIBLE WHILE ON DUTY!
In accordance with Agency guidelines for professional behavior and appropriate representation yourself and this Agency at all times, it is expected that staff will refrain from cell phone activity while delivering patient care.
As clearly stated in the Agency’s Employee Handbook, “Cell phone use should be limited while on duty and any use of cell phones or other technology to take pictures or video is strictly prohibited” and considered a breach of HIPAA.
The New York State Office of the Professions’ Nursing Guide to Practice indicates:
The nurse participates in establishing, maintaining, and improving healthcare environments and conditions of employment conducive to the provision of quality health care and consistent with the values of the profession through individual and collective action. In order to accomplish this objective nursing staff are expected to be alert and attentive to their patients and environments of care, NOT distracted by persona cell phone use.
By signing and submitting below, I am confirming that I have reviewed, understand, and am in agreement with this information.
